How to Protect Yourself From Scammers

In the last two or three years, scammers have been making more attempts to steal funds from electronic accounts, using the advanced social engineering techniques.

A scammer may call you on your phone, and, pretending to be a Bank employee, direct you to a fake website, or under a pretext, makes you give out your personal information.

Phishing is one of the most common ways to steal card details, usernames, and passwords to your personal account, secret codes, and other sensitive information. Often phishing websites contain incorrect address and domain (.ru, .kz, .com).

How to avoid clicking on a phishing website?

Carefully check the information sources. If someone sent you a link in an email or messenger, you need to look at the Bank official website, and check whether the HTTP address and domain in the link coincide with the official one.
Even if this link has been sent by your friend — his or her personal page on social media sites could be hacked.
It is not uncommon for a scammer to call you on your mobile phone and question you on fake transactions to another country or city, pretending that someone has stolen your personal details and transferred funds to other accounts, and for the time being the Bank has set the amount aside. This way, misleading a person and exposing you to stress, a scammer gets hold of all your usernames, passwords and PIN numbers.

How to protect yourself from scammers?
— do not share your payment card details (number, expiration date, CVV/CVC, PIN-code);
— do not give out codes from a text message;
— do not change the phone number in Smartbank at someone’s request;
— cut off a conversation and immediately change Smartbank login and password, if you received a call from a phone number similar to the Bank Contact Center phone number and request personal details;
— never give Smartbank login and password to anyone;
— create a strong and unique password for Smartbank;
— do not click on links in emails from someone you do not know;
— install and regularly update security software on your devices;
— do not install software and apps through unknown sources;
— avoid using public computers or WiFi hotspots to access Smartbank;
— ensure the official https://my.smartbank.kz website is secured with SSL connection.
