• Eurasian Bank became the first company from Kazakhstan to join Mastercard’s Priceless Planet global initiative
• In honor of this event, 30 trees were planted in Almaty

22 April 2024, Almaty – Eurasian Bank became a new partner of the Priceless Planet Coalition, a global Mastercard initiative created in partnership with the Conservation International Foundation and the World Resources Institute. The Coalition unites the efforts of companies around the world to contribute to the fight against climate change and aimed at sustainable development and environmental conservation. Eurasian Bank became the first Kazakh company to join the Priceless Planet Coalition.

In honor of the beginning of cooperation between Eurasian Bank and the Priceless Planet Coalition, an alley of 30 pink chestnuts was planted in the park next to the Kazakh-British Technical University. The tree planting took place on the International Mother Earth Day, which was established by the UN General Assembly in 2009 and has been celebrated annually on 22 April since 2010.

Support for eco-projects is an important element of the sustainable business development strategy: earlier, Eurasian Bank began issuing an Eco-card made of recycled plastic, which gives everyone the opportunity to support landscaping and garbage sorting in the country. In addition to issuing an Eco-card, the Bank presented a unique NFC poster through which payment card holders from any bank could send one or more payments in the amount of 500 tenge to plant a tree with one touch. Thus, over the past two years, five alleys of various trees have been planted, about 200 trees in Astana, Almaty, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kyzylorda and other cities of the country.

One of the ways to do this is the growth of urban greening and the introduction of green technologies. By participating in it, we not only protect our planet for ourselves and future generations, but also promote public awareness and responsible entrepreneurship. The Company committed to achieving zero emissions by 2040 and prefers renewable energy sources: solar panels account for more than 50% of the energy consumed by Mastercard data centers. In addition, Mastercard everywhere initiates projects for the production of plastic cards from recycled raw materials and projects for the digital issuance of cards. Cardholders in many countries can already calculate their own carbon footprint and assess the impact of their consumer behavior on CO2 emissions.

The Priceless Planet Coalition is a global initiative founded by Mastercard in conjunction with Conservation International and the World Resources Institute and consisting of more than 150 partners working to plant 100 million trees in places with the greatest potential for positive impacts on climate, communities and biodiversity. At the moment, the Coalition partners have committed to making donations or conducting campaigns to involve consumers in collective action to combat climate change. Since the creation of the Priceless Planet Coalition, the portfolio of restoration projects includes facilities in 20 countries on 6 continents.

International Mother Earth Day has been celebrated annually on 22 April, since 2010. It was established by the UN General Assembly in 2009 (Resolution No. A/RES/63/278). The resolution notes that the Mother Earth term is generally accepted in many countries, reflecting the relationship between the planet, its ecosystems and humans. Inviting all UN Member States, international and non-governmental organizations to celebrate the International Mother Earth Day, the General Assembly draws attention to the fact that the Earth Day holiday is already celebrated annually in many countries.
