IN MEMORY OF ALEKSANDR ANTONOVICH MASHKEVICH

On 22 March 2025, Aleksandr Antonovich Mashkevich, one of the founders of ERG Group and Eurasian Bank, passed away at the age of 72 after a long illness.

 

Aleksandr Antonovich Mashkevich graduated from the Kyrgyz State University. He is a candidate of pedagogical sciences and a doctor of philosophical sciences.

 

As one of the founders of the Eurasian Industrial Association (EIA), which united several large industrial enterprises in the mining, energy and transportation sectors of Kazakhstan, and then Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), he had been very actively, directly involved in the development and management of the company for many years, including in 2014-2024 as Chairman of the Board of Directors of ERG. Aleksandr Mashkevich was also Chairman of the Board of Directors of Eurasian Bank JSC for a long time.

 

ERG has done a tremendous amount of work over the years and implemented many innovative projects. New production facilities were created, including the Kazakhstan Electrolysis Plant, the country’s only producer of high-grade primary aluminum, and Smelting Shop No. 4 of the Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant, the launch of which put the company on the list of world leaders in ferrochrome production.

 

Aleksandr Antonovich made a huge contribution to the development of the mining and metallurgical sector, banking industry, financial market and economy of Kazakhstan.

 

From 1999 to 2024, Aleksandr Antonovich was a member of the Foreign Investors Council under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He took an active part in discussing topical issues on the Council’s platform.

 

In 2000, at the initiative of Aleksandr Mashkevich, the Jewish Congress of Kazakhstan was established, of which he was elected President. He also headed the Eurasian Jewish Congress. His activities were aimed at stimulating interethnic and interconfessional dialogue.

 

Under the direct patronage of Aleksandr Mashkevich numerous social and educational projects have been realized.

 

He was awarded the Qurmet Order (2001) for his great contribution to the socio-economic development of Kazakhstan, the Barys Order, 3rd degree (2011) for special merits in industrial, socio-cultural and public activities, the Parasat Order (2016) on the eve of the 30th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan for his significant contribution to the socio-economic development of the country, and was awarded the Barys Order, 1st degree (2021) for his active public activities (2021).

 

The staff of Eurasian Bank JSC, together with the many thousands of employees of the ERG group of companies, mourns the death of Aleksandr Antonovich Mashkevich and expresses deep condolences to his family and friends.
