The Information Threats and Cyber ​​Defense Department of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan has informed the Bank about a new type of cyber fraud. According to the information received from FinCERT of the Bank of Russia, there was recorded a surge in fraud using electronic event messages to gmail addresses.

Attackers send a specially generated letter to the victim’s email address (gmail.com) with a Google calendar event containing a text about an alleged error in a transaction. Google calendar, regardless of whether the message sent by scammers has got into spam, creates an event in the calendar.

After that, the owner of the email address to which the fraudster sent a letter receives a notification to the phone/computer about the upcoming event.

The user follows the link where he is asked to either pay a transfer fee, or provide his plastic card details, supposedly in order to transfer the specified amount to his account.

Thus, attackers obtain access to money on your card.
