Eurasian Bank presents a new Eco-Card design for customers who support ecology
30 October 2024, Almaty — Eurasian Bank, together with Mastercard, is proud to announce the launch of the EcoCard with a new design created specifically for people who support nature conservation. EcoCards have the usual payment functions and additional value — 1% of bonuses from each transaction goes to landscaping and waste recycling projects, which makes cities cleaner and greener.
The Bank employees timed the planting of a garden and park composition made of almonds in the Botanical Garden of Almaty to coincide with the release of the EcoCard with a new design.
“Now the card has a new bright design — a branch with leaves, which emphasizes the main task — to ensure an environmentally friendly future for the next generations. Your every purchase and payment by card is a step towards reducing the amount of plastic waste and planting a new tree, creating a new alley,” commented Lyazzat Satiyeva, CEO of the Bank.
The EcoCard partners are two public organizations – Eco Network in Almaty and the Sustainable Development Earth Foundation in Astana. These foundations will receive funds in the amount of 1% in the form of a transaction bonus — 0.5% to each organization, after which they will be spent on landscaping and waste recycling projects. The Bank will additionally add the required funds to the accrued bonuses as part of its ESG agenda. The reports will be available on the websites of the Bank and organizations.
“We believe that in order to create a sustainable economy, active action is needed from all of us — the private and public sectors, civil society and individuals. Only by joining our efforts will we be able to build a future in which people and the planet will prosper. Therefore, we are pleased to present the EcoCard made of recycled plastic, which helps everyone to make their contribution to the preservation of the environment,” said Sanzhar Zhamalov, CEO of Mastercard in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
In May 2024, Eurasian Bank joined Mastercard’s global Priceless Planet Coalition Program, which aims to plant 100 million trees to reduce the dangerous climatic effects of warming and carbon footprint. The Bank is still the only participant from Kazakhstan that announced the achievement of carbon neutrality by 2060.
Recycled plastic collected at sea and on land is used for the production of EcoCards, which can be recycled and does not break down during use, including at elevated air temperatures.
