How Bank Plastic Helps to Green the Capital

5 May 2022, Almaty

The first batch of 20 trees was planted on the territory of two new schools in Nur-Sultan thanks to bonuses accrued on Eurasian Bank special Eco-cards. The Bank employees, together with colleagues from the Eurasian Environmental Fund (EEF) and graduates of schools No. 91 and Bilim Innovation Lyceum, planted pyramidal poplars that perfectly take root in the harsh climate of the capital.

“Sauap, a good cause, that’s how this concept sounds in Kazakh. Planting a tree is a sauap, and I hope my students will come here and see the grown trees, and after a while they will bring their children,” Dina Rakhiyeva, a teacher of Russian language and literature at school No. 91, shared her impressions.

In addition to holders of Eurasian Bank Eco-cards, cardholders of other Kazakhstani banks who made donations through special NFC posters located in major shopping and entertainment centers contributed to the landscaping.

The environmental project involving digital banking technologies was launched by the Eurasian Bank and EEF in June 2021 with the support of Mastercard, which has long been known for its environmental initiatives to preserve forests, clean air and achieve carbon neutrality. Digital ecology projects are being implemented all over the world, and for the first time — in Kazakhstan.

With each transaction with the Eurasian Bank Mastercard Eco-card, 0.5% of the amount goes to the EEF for the implementation of green projects. The Bank charges another 0.5% to customers for contactless payments. And an additional option of +30% bonuses in the Entertainment category. You can issue Eco-card remotely, for free, with home delivery.

The planting of trees in schools was the beginning of a series of events on greening the capital, which will continue in May and June with the participation of the Eurasian Bank and the EEF.
