We share the public’s outrage at the fraudulent actions of the Biz Birgemiz Qazaqstan Foundation, which discredited the entire field of charity in the country. This case confirms the need to strengthen the verification of charitable foundations.
We want to clarify the key points:
During the floods, in April 2024, the Biz Birgemiz Qazaqstan Foundation, as one of the most famous, was added to the Charitable Contributions section of the Smartbank mobile app solely for reasons of promptly helping the victims and for the convenience of customers.
Before including its details, the Foundation underwent a standard compliance check in accordance with all legislative and internal requirements. At that time, no risks or compromising information were identified — the Foundation had the public status of an active participant in emergency response.
Eurasian Bank did not cooperate with Biz Birgemiz Qazaqstan, and did not transfer funds to it. We only provided the technical capability for individual transfers, as well as for dozens of other charitable organizations, which we informed our customers about.
As soon as the accusations against the management of the Biz Birgemiz Qazaqstan Foundation became known, its banking details were promptly deleted from the mobile app.
Eurasian Bank independently participated in providing assistance to flood-affected regions and sent a total of 10 billion tenge of its own funds directly to foundations that worked directly on the sites. These organizations provided targeted assistance to flood victims, funded the restoration of infrastructure and housing, and their work was confirmed and documented.
Our priority is efficient assistance where it is guaranteed to reach those in need.
